Education

Windsor is home to the University of Windsor, which is Canada's southernmost university. It is a research oriented, comprehensive university. It has a student population of over 15,000 full-time and part-time undergraduate students and over 1000 graduate students. The university is just east of the Ambassador Bridge, south of the Detroit River. Windsor is also home to St. Clair College, a community college.

Windsor is home to two International Baccalaureate recognized schools, Assumption College School, a Catholic high school, and Académie Ste. Cécile International School, a private school. Also, another school, namely Hon. Vincent Massey Secondary School, is renowned in Canada and North America for notable accomplishments in mathematics.

Residents attend schools in the Greater Essex County District School Board, the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire de district des écoles catholiques du Sud-Ouest and Conseil scolaire de district du Centre-Sud-Ouest. Independent faith-based schools include Maranatha Christian Academy (JK-12), First Lutheran Christian Academy (preschool-8), and Académie Ste. Cécile International School (JK-12, including International Baccalaureate), and Windsor Adventist Elementary School.

Windsor Public Library offers education, entertainment and community history materials, programs and services. The main branch coordinates a literacy program for adults needing functional literacy upgrading.

University of Windsor

Just across the river from Detroit sits the University of Windsor, home to over 15,000 full and part time students from around Canada. Located just 10 minutes from downtown Windsor, the 125 acre wide university sits nestled between residential neighborhoods, making it as integral to the community's future as Christian affiliate programs. With history, community, and academic excellence at its core, UWSA is a great destination for any post secondary students to call home.

Part of what makes the university an ideal spot for students is the campus and the people who call it home. Anyone can simply take a stroll through the arboretum, which houses many of the species found in the residential Carolinian forest. If students choose to stay in one of the six residence halls on campus, they can take full advantage of the on campus retail stores, food court, or share a drink with fellow students at The Basement Pub. Though this may not be for some, any students who prefer old fashion exercise to improve their looks can train at the St. Denis Centre, found on College Ave. at the south end of campus. Here you'll find recreational facilities such as a weight room, swimming pool, and athletic venues, as well as the department of Kinesiology, so no need to worry if you pull a muscle while shooting hoops.

Though campus life is what makes university life sweet, every student is there for the meat and potatoes of scholastics. With over 140 graduate and undergraduate programs throughout its nine educational facilities, there's a lot to choose from. Whether your goal is to treat autism or build glass enclosures, you'll get the tools you need from UWSA. There are also nine cooperative education programs, giving student the chance to get hands on education.

Some of the more notable faculties include the Law Faculty, one of only six in Canada. With two University-assisted legal clinics in the city, students get the chance to not only learn, but practice their craft. The Faculty of Engineering allows students specialize in a specific discipline, allowing them to focus on their area of passion. If you prefer the stand up desk to the drafting table, you'll get an education designed to your career path. With seven other faculties to choose from, students who come to the University of Windsor will forge a future for themselves on the banks of the Detroit River.
